GeeSpace Expands Space Footprint in Africa Through Satellite Partnerships in Algeria and Morocco

Chinese satellite operator GeeSpace, a subsidiary of Geely Holding Group, is expanding its presence in Africa’s satellite ecosystem through new strategic partnerships in Algeria and Morocco. The agreements aim to enhance satellite capabilities, strengthen digital infrastructure, and advance the deployment of low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite technology across North Africa.

In December 2025, GeeSpace signed a cooperation agreement with Algerian partners to advance the country’s capabilities in satellite Internet of Things (IoT) services, LEO satellite production, and broader technological self-reliance. One of the key agreements was signed with Algerian Télécom Satellite (ATS), where ATS Director-General Toufik Hentabli and GeeSpace CEO Wang Yang agreed to jointly develop the commercial and operational framework for a satellite IoT investment and deployment project in Algeria.

The initiative will be implemented through sequential phases and may expand to other African markets depending on project progress and market potential. The partnership supports Algeria’s broader digital transformation strategy, particularly efforts to strengthen nationwide connectivity and modernise sectors such as industry, agriculture, and logistics through satellite-enabled IoT services.

A second agreement was signed between the Algeria Space Agency and GeeSpace to strengthen cooperation in manufacturing low-Earth orbit satellites. The collaboration is expected to deepen technical knowledge exchange and support the development of advanced satellite production capabilities in Algeria. Reports indicate the initiative could lead to the establishment of a satellite manufacturing facility and a research and applications centre, helping to anchor a domestic aerospace ecosystem while building local technical expertise.

These efforts align with Algeria’s wider ambition to strengthen its national space capabilities and increase technological self-reliance in satellite technologies. The partnerships could also enable new satellite-based applications across telecommunications, infrastructure monitoring, and logistics.

In Morocco, GeeSpace signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Soremar Group in Casablanca to advance the deployment of GEESATCOM satellite communication services. The partnership focuses on commercialising GeeSpace’s low-Earth orbit satellite network and expanding its applications across Morocco and the wider North African region.

Soremar, a key player in Morocco’s maritime and satellite communications sectors, will contribute its market presence and operational expertise to support the rollout. The companies plan to collaborate on constellation system testing, market expansion, and application development across industries including transportation, energy, and agriculture, supporting Morocco’s broader digital transformation initiatives.
