Alfa Activates Free Plan Dedicated to Distance Learning for Subscribers

Lebanese telecom operator Alfa has activated a Free e-Learning data plan for all subscribers on its network to support students and teachers during ongoing disruptions to in-person education. The plan is automatically available to both prepaid and postpaid users between 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The initiative follows a similar move announced earlier by fellow operator Touch and comes in response to guidance from Telecommunications Minister Charles Hajj and a request from Education and Higher Education Minister Rima Karameh. The policy aims to reduce connectivity barriers and maintain learning continuity as many schools and universities shift to online classes.

The shift to remote learning follows the escalation of the Hezbollah–Israel conflict that began on March 2, which forced several educational institutions across Lebanon to suspend physical classes. However, the country’s slow and unreliable internet infrastructure has posed challenges for digital learning.

Under the new plan, subscribers receive 20GB of free data specifically for distance learning, allowing access to platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Madrasati, and other Education Ministry-approved tools.

Prepaid subscribers will receive the full 20GB allocation for the current month, while postpaid users will receive a prorated amount based on their billing cycle. The plan will automatically renew every 30 days for prepaid lines and at the start of each new billing cycle for postpaid accounts.

Subscribers can track their usage by dialing *111*2# and selecting the “Free e-Learning” option.
