Egypt eyes $1 bln data centre, green hydrogen facility with Renergy Group

Egypt is in discussions with Renergy Group to develop a $1 billion hyperscale data centre alongside a large-scale green hydrogen facility in South Sinai. The project aims to position the country as a regional hub for both clean energy exports and digital infrastructure.

The hydrogen plant is expected to produce up to 400,000 tonnes annually, with initial output targeted at 160,000 tonnes for export to Europe. The proposed data centre, powered by renewable energy from the hydrogen facility, will start at 10,000 square metres with plans to scale significantly, using seawater cooling for efficiency.

The initiative aligns with Egypt’s broader strategy to expand its role in global data transit, attract cloud investments, and strengthen its ICT sector as a key contributor to economic growth.
