Nigeria’s telecom regulator NCC plans to block mobile numbers linked to fraud through a new cross-sector platform aimed at strengthening digital security.
The proposed Telecoms Identity Risk Management System (TIRMS) will enable telecom and financial service providers to verify and flag suspicious numbers before granting access, addressing risks from recycled, swapped, or improperly registered SIMs.
Regulatory amendments will introduce stricter controls, including mandatory subscriber notifications before line churn, reporting of churned numbers, and a framework for blocking fraudulent MSISDNs, with collaboration across regulators and law enforcement to enhance trust in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
