Veon is planning to introduce direct-to-cell satellite connectivity in Bangladesh through a partnership with Starlink and its operator Banglalink.
The technology would allow standard 4G smartphones to connect directly to satellites, eliminating reliance on ground-based towers and significantly improving coverage in remote and disaster-prone areas. Veon has already deployed similar solutions in Ukraine and trialled them in Kazakhstan, demonstrating rapid adoption and scalability.
Banglalink is currently in discussions to finalize the partnership, though regulatory constraints around satellite communication in Bangladesh could pose challenges. Despite market pressures and declining subscribers, Veon remains committed to investing in the country’s telecom and digital ecosystem.
