The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a total of 177 telecom licenses during the fiscal year 2023-24. This marks a significant step forward as the PTA’s license issuance system has been fully digitized, improving access for applicants, especially those from remote areas, making services more efficient and accessible.
According to PTA records, the licenses issued in the past year include:
- 60 fixed local loop licenses
- 36 class value-added services licenses
- 31 wireless HF and VHF licenses
- 49 amateur licenses
- 3 long-distance and international licenses
- 6 aeronautical mobile station licenses
- 2 LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) licenses
With these additions, the total number of telecom licenses issued by the PTA has reached 2,140.
In the submarine cable sector, PTA has issued seven licenses to date, with four more currently under review. The digitization of the licensing system is expected to benefit entrepreneurs and businesses in remote regions, promoting greater inclusivity within the telecom sector.
PTA officials emphasized that the new digital system increases transparency and accessibility, simplifying the application process for individuals and organizations seeking to obtain licenses.
