Qi, a leader in Iraq’s fintech sector, has launched its groundbreaking third-generation app, SuperQi, in partnership with Ant International. Powered by Alipay+ Wallet Tech solutions, SuperQi combines a digital lifestyle super app with a fully functional digital bank, heralding a new era of financial inclusion and digital services in Iraq.
Since its July 2024 launch, SuperQi has effectively merged Western digital banking models with the best practices of Asia’s leading super apps. The app is designed to serve millions of Iraqis, offering services such as scan-to-pay, money transfers, bill payments, loans, installments, mobile recharges, shopping, and travel solutions, all through one integrated platform.
Bahaa Abdulhussein, Chairman of Qi, expressed the company’s vision, saying, “Our goal at Qi is to create a cashless Iraq by providing financial services to every corner of society. SuperQi is a step toward this vision, simplifying financial transactions and fostering greater inclusivity for all Iraqis.”
SuperQi is available in Arabic, English, and Kurdish, ensuring it is accessible to a broad range of users. The app already supports Iraq’s expanding financial infrastructure, with over 20,000 point-of-sale merchants and 10,000 cash-out agents. Qi aims to reach over 30% of Iraq’s population by 2026, making SuperQi a central tool in the country’s financial evolution.
Qi has already made notable strides in improving financial inclusion, with the percentage of banked individuals in Iraq rising from just 5% to nearly 50% in recent years. Through SuperQi, Qi aims to continue this upward trend, furthering the country’s shift toward a cashless society.
Abdulhussein added, “With SuperQi, we empower millions of Iraqis by providing accessible, secure, and efficient solutions, paving the way for a more interconnected, inclusive, and technologically advanced nation.”
Qi is also focused on an ambitious expansion plan, with the goal of reaching 15 million app users within the next three years. With over 11 million cardholders and five million mobile app users already, Qi is positioning SuperQi as a tool to reshape Iraq’s financial landscape and offer unparalleled convenience.
Beyond individual users, SuperQi is designed to create a thriving ecosystem for businesses. The app offers secure, flexible payment solutions, enabling businesses to connect with customers in innovative ways. Ali Muneam, CEO of Qi, said, “SuperQi is a milestone in Iraq’s journey toward a cashless society. It’s a key step in modernizing our economy by bridging the gap for millions who still rely on cash transactions.”
Luay Al Obaidi, Chief Product Officer of SuperQi, emphasized the app’s broad appeal, stating, “SuperQi represents a paradigm shift in how we address the lifestyle and daily needs of our diverse customer base. We invite businesses across Iraq to leverage SuperQi as a platform to deliver their services seamlessly.”
With integrated features ranging from digital banking to e-commerce, SuperQi is poised to become Iraq’s central platform for digital financial services. Qi’s collaboration with Ant International has played a crucial role in launching this powerful financial ecosystem, unlocking new economic opportunities in Iraq’s growing digital landscape.
Qi, established in 2007, has long been a pioneer in fintech innovation, and the launch of SuperQi marks a significant milestone in its vision for a cashless, digitally advanced future.
