Ooredoo and DE-CIX Launch Doha IX, Qatar’s First Standalone Internet Exchange

Ooredoo, Qatar’s telecommunications operator, has partnered with DE-CIX, a global leader in carrier-neutral Internet Exchanges (IX), to launch Doha IX, Qatar’s first standalone commercial Internet Exchange. This initiative strengthens Qatar’s position as a regional digital hub, enhancing connectivity and reducing costs for businesses in the country and the surrounding region.

Doha IX will offer a carrier-neutral platform that facilitates low-latency traffic exchange, optimising network performance and supporting remote peering services. By providing cost-effective, direct access to global and regional content providers through a single port, Doha IX reduces traditional IP transit costs significantly.

Built on DE-CIX’s advanced interconnection technology and Ooredoo’s state-of-the-art data centre infrastructure, Doha IX is supported by both companies’ strong relationships with global content providers and networks. These assets ensure seamless traffic exchange, reduced latency, and an optimised user experience for businesses across Qatar.

Thani Ali Al Malki, Ooredoo Qatar’s Chief Business Officer, highlighted the importance of Doha IX in upgrading Qatar’s digital infrastructure, stating that it delivers faster, more reliable connectivity while aligning with the country’s National Vision 2030.

Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX, expressed confidence that the new IX will provide superior interconnection services and unlock the potential of Qatar’s digital economy. This collaboration marks a milestone in strengthening regional connectivity and supporting economic growth and innovation in the GCC.

Doha IX is the sixth IX operated by DE-CIX in the Middle East and will serve as a key driver of digital transformation for businesses in Qatar and beyond.
