Merak Capital and Microsoft Partner to Empower Gaming Startups in Saudi Arabia

Merak Capital, a technology-focused investment firm, has signed a groundbreaking agreement with Microsoft to accelerate the growth and global reach of gaming startups in Saudi Arabia. This partnership combines Microsoft’s technical expertise with the kingdom’s ambition to become a global leader in the gaming industry.

The collaboration will provide gaming startups with access to Microsoft’s extensive resources, including Azure cloud services, advanced gaming development tools, and a vast global network of partners. Additionally, startups will benefit from the Exel Gaming Accelerator, which will help them leverage AI, cloud, and analytics to innovate faster and create immersive gaming experiences. The partnership will also provide mentorship from Microsoft’s top gaming professionals and open doors to international markets through Microsoft’s global distribution channels.

This initiative builds on the Merak Gaming Fund (MGF), an $80 million investment fund established under the Gaming and Esports Sector Financing Program. The fund, managed by the National Development Fund (NDF) in collaboration with the Social Development Bank and the Saudi Esports Federation, aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and supports the country’s gaming and esports strategy, driving innovation and growth in the sector.

The National Development Fund (NDF) oversees an integrated development finance ecosystem that promotes key sectors such as e-gaming and esports. By supporting initiatives like the Merak Gaming Fund, NDF plays a crucial role in shaping the gaming industry’s future, positioning Saudi Arabia as a regional leader in digital entertainment and economic development.

Abdullah Altamami, Founder and CEO of Merak Capital, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership with Microsoft is a key milestone for Saudi Arabia’s gaming ecosystem. By integrating Microsoft’s cutting-edge technology and global expertise, we’re providing gaming entrepreneurs with the tools, infrastructure, and mentorship needed to scale their businesses and create globally relevant games.”

Turki Badhris, President of Microsoft Arabia, also commented, “At Microsoft, we’re committed to equipping developers with the tools needed to create transformative experiences. Our collaboration with Merak Capital is an exciting opportunity to nurture gaming innovation in Saudi Arabia and support a thriving ecosystem with global potential.”

The Exel Gaming Accelerator is now accepting applications for its inaugural cohort. Startups with scalable business models and strong growth potential are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is February 16, 2025.
