Starlink Registration Process Begins in Pakistan to Enhance Broadband Access

The registration process for Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, has officially begun in Pakistan, according to a statement from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Tuesday. This milestone follows a meeting between PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeezur Rehman and the Starlink team at the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.

The meeting focused on improving affordable broadband access in underserved areas, with the aim of bridging the digital divide and accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation. The PTA emphasized its commitment to fostering innovation and enabling emerging technologies for nationwide connectivity.

During the discussion, the PTA chairman confirmed that Starlink’s registration is currently underway with Pakistan’s satellite regulatory body. This is a crucial step before the PTA can grant a license for satellite-based internet services in the country. Starlink shared its insights into how its satellite-based internet solutions could benefit remote regions of Pakistan, and both parties explored regulatory frameworks and strategies for seamless service integration.

Earlier this year, Elon Musk, the tech billionaire behind Starlink, announced that the company had applied to launch its services in Pakistan and was awaiting government approval. The Standing Committee on Information Technology & Telecommunication has urged the PTA to expedite the process to introduce Starlink’s services to the country as soon as possible.

Starlink initially approached Pakistan in 2022 to provide satellite-based internet services. However, discussions with the Pakistan Space Regulatory Authority are still ongoing. Until the licensing agreement is finalized, Starlink cannot offer its services in the country. The PTA continues to work on finalizing the regulatory process to bring Starlink’s services to Pakistan as part of the effort to enhance the country’s digital infrastructure.
