stc Bahrain and SCE Sign MoU to Implement IoT-Based Electronic Waste Monitoring System

The Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) and stc Bahrain have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce an electronic waste transportation monitoring system in Bahrain, supported by Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The MoU was signed by Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Dainah, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, and Khalid Al Osaimi, CEO of stc Bahrain.

Dr. Bin Dainah emphasized that this new system strengthens pollution control measures and supports the directive of His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Environment. The initiative aims to improve governance in waste management, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

The project also has the backing of the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure, chaired by Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Deputy Prime Minister. The committee plays a key role in facilitating vital environmental projects aimed at meeting sustainable development goals.

As part of the MoU, the SCE has held workshops with waste transportation companies, in collaboration with stc Bahrain, to introduce a new licensing mechanism for vehicles. Dr. Bin Dainah praised stc Bahrain for expanding IoT technology in Bahrain and reiterated the SCE’s commitment to ensuring compliance with the 2024 waste transportation licensing regulations.

The minister also stressed the importance of cooperation among waste transportation companies, waste producers, and recycling firms to prevent illegal waste disposal, emphasizing the need for enhanced coordination.

Khalid Al Osaimi expressed stc Bahrain’s commitment to supporting Bahrain’s sustainability goals through technology and innovation. He reaffirmed that stc Bahrain would leverage its technological expertise to ensure the success of this important national initiative.
