Intelsat, in collaboration with MaxIQ Space, has expanded its Africa Space STEM Programme to include schools in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Senegal. Now in its fifth year, the initiative aims to provide hands-on training, expert-led instruction, and STEM kits to 12 schools, empowering educators and students in space science, sustainability, and IoT education.
The newly adapted 2025 programme is focused on creating lasting impact on African education systems, helping students gain the skills needed for STEM careers. The programme aims to inspire and prepare the next generation for a workforce ready to drive technological advancements and support national development goals.
“As a pioneer in satellite technology, Intelsat remains committed to inspiring the next generation by connecting African students to real-world applications of space technology,” said an Intelsat representative. “We are continuously investing in state-of-the-art satellite ground infrastructures across Africa, playing a role in preparing the young generation for the future.”
Judi Sandrock, Programme Manager at MaxIQ Space, stated, “Africa is emerging as a key frontier for space infrastructure. Equipping future leaders with the knowledge and skills to drive this transformation is crucial. Partnering with Intelsat for the STEM program is an exciting opportunity to support the growth of technology and education in the region.”
Schools and educators in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Senegal can now apply for this fully funded opportunity to introduce space education into their classrooms. The application deadline is March 31, 2025.
