MTN Group has announced a strategic partnership with Meta to enhance the quality and reliability of voice and video calls on real-time calling applications, such as WhatsApp, across 12 MTN markets. The collaboration aims to optimise both application-aware networks and network-aware applications, ensuring a seamless, stable, and high-quality user experience.
Since the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, MTN and Meta have been working together to identify critical areas for improvement and implement targeted network optimizations that will improve the interaction between mobile networks and real-time calling apps, all while maintaining efficient traffic delivery. Leveraging data analytics and comprehensive testing, the teams have developed and deployed solutions that significantly enhance mobile users’ experience.
The first market to benefit from these improvements is Nigeria, where early results have shown a 50% improvement in key performance indicators (KPIs), providing a significantly better user experience for MTN Nigeria customers.
Yahaya Ibrahim, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at MTN, expressed, “This implementation further demonstrates our commitment to enhancing our customers’ digital experience. We are pleased with the remarkable improvements in our real-time communication services, reflecting our focus on delivering innovative customer solutions.”
Diego Marí, Head of Network Ecosystems Engineering at Meta, commented, “This collaboration allows us to deploy advanced solutions for an unparalleled real-time experience in Nigeria, showcasing our dedication to improving service quality and user experience while striving for continued efficiency in traffic delivery.”
