Malaysia ranked as the world’s ninth-largest exporter of high-tech products in 2023, according to a report by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS. This marks the country’s strongest performance in the sector over the past decade.
Malaysia’s high-tech exports increased by $2 billion, reaching a record $127 billion. These products now account for nearly 59% of the nation’s total manufacturing exports, up from 52% the previous year. Alongside this achievement, Malaysia also recorded its highest trade surplus in a decade, surpassing $51.5 billion in 2023.
The report emphasized the importance of adhering to internationally recognized benchmarks when assessing high-tech export values, as outlined by major economic organizations. Efforts are underway in Malaysia to enhance the national innovation ecosystem, ensuring sustainable growth and continued leadership in high-tech industries.
