Ooredoo Kuwait Leads Digital Transformation with 5G, AI, and Sustainability Initiatives

Ooredoo Kuwait continues to strengthen its position as a leading telecom pioneer in the region, thanks to its track record of innovation, investments in cutting-edge technologies, and a flexible infrastructure designed to meet future demands. The company has been central to introducing smart communications concepts and delivering advanced digital services, significantly accelerating Kuwait’s digital transformation.

Ooredoo is now entering a new phase of network evolution based on three strategic pillars: advanced 5G, AI, and sustainability. This marks the company’s commitment to pioneering the digital future and empowering national sectors with smart communication solutions.

Issa Haider, Chief Technology Officer at Ooredoo Kuwait, highlighted that the company views technology not just as an operational tool but as a comprehensive operating model that drives innovation, builds the foundation for smart communications, and delivers effective digital solutions to key sectors and society.

Ooredoo is preparing to launch its 5G Advanced network in line with the reallocation of spectrum in the 2300 and 2600 MHz (TDD) bands, a significant leap in supporting the national digital economy. The company has also upgraded its radio access network with massive MIMO antennas and developed infrastructure to support network slicing and edge computing. These advancements aim to serve critical sectors like ports, oil, smart education, and healthcare.

Targeted use cases include private networks for oil and gas, smart ports, supply chains, immersive education, and medical IoT. Haider praised the cooperation with the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) on the TDD band activation plan and the technical partnerships with Huawei and Nokia to test AI-powered network capabilities and improve performance.

AI has become the cornerstone of Ooredoo’s operations, used in self-organizing networks (SON), predictive maintenance, AI-driven digital customer service, customer satisfaction analytics, and experience quality prediction. The company’s partnership with NVIDIA has been key to accelerating the development of an intelligent AI infrastructure, leveraging high-performance computing to offer personalized customer experiences and real-time data traffic analytics.

Ooredoo is also establishing an AI Center of Excellence and working toward a self-decision-making network architecture to deliver real-time, customized offerings.

Sustainability is at the core of Ooredoo’s long-term vision. The company has begun phasing out its 3G network to reduce energy consumption and introduced hybrid sites powered by solar energy. Additionally, Ooredoo follows environmental standards in its procurement practices, including the use of recyclable materials, reduced packaging, and a reliance on cloud computing. The company monitors its energy usage, carbon footprint, and electronic waste through advanced dashboards, aligning with GSMA and CITRA standards.

Haider concluded, “Our vision is for Ooredoo Kuwait to become a role model in building a smart, green network powered by artificial intelligence. Success is no longer just about speed—it’s about the ability to innovate and create lasting, sustainable impact in society.”
