Vodacom Group has named Mohamed Abdallah, CEO of Vodafone Egypt, as the new Chief Executive Officer of Vodacom International Markets. Abdallah will maintain his leadership role in Egypt while overseeing operations in additional African markets including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania. This consolidation aims to unify leadership across key regions and streamline Vodacom’s operating model.
Abdallah, who joined Vodafone Egypt in 1998, has held senior roles including Enterprise Business Director and Consumer Business Director. He succeeds Diego Gutierrez, who stepped down in April after seven years leading International Business.
Under this structure, the CEOs of Vodacom’s DRC, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania units will report to Abdallah, who will continue reporting to Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub.
Joosub praised Abdallah’s commercial acumen and leadership: “His role will be instrumental as we scale our international portfolio and embed our purpose-led strategy across Africa. We are confident the International Markets will thrive under his guidance.”
Abdallah expressed enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I am passionate about driving connectivity and innovation across Africa. Vodafone Group is uniquely positioned to shape the continent’s digital future and promote socio-economic development.”
