VA Tech Wabag Secures SAR 1.02 Billion Contract for Mega Desalination Plant in Saudi Arabia

VA Tech Wabag (Wabag), a leading Indian multinational specializing in water technology, has been awarded a SAR 1.02 billion ($272 million) contract by the Saudi Water Authority (SWA) to develop a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.

The project encompasses design, engineering, supply, construction, and commissioning of a state-of-the-art desalination facility on a greenfield site along the kingdom’s west coast. Upon completion, the plant will have a capacity of 300 million liters per day (MLD), significantly bolstering regional water resources.

Rohan Mittal, Wabag’s Head of Strategy and Business Growth for the GCC, expressed pride in winning the project for the second time. He emphasized that the contract win highlights Wabag’s technical expertise, competitiveness, and proven ability to execute complex desalination projects.

The Yanbu desalination plant aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives, reinforcing Wabag’s position as a global leader in the water treatment and desalination sector.
