TRC Reports Strong Growth in Mobile and Broadband Usage in Q2 2025

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has released its Q2 2025 statistical report, highlighting steady growth in data consumption and broadband adoption across the country, despite slight declines in fixed-line voice services.

Mobile Services
Mobile voice traffic reached 7.1 billion minutes, with 97% domestic and 3% international. SMS usage surged to 344 million messages, up 18.2% from 291 million in Q2 2024. Mobile broadband data usage grew by 15.5%, reaching 724 million GB compared to 627 million GB a year earlier.

Fixed Broadband Services
Total fixed broadband subscriptions rose to 819,000, up 3% year-on-year, achieving a household penetration rate of 33.3%. Fiber continues to dominate the market with 76% share (619,300 subscriptions), followed by Fixed Wireless Access (17%) and xDSL (7%). Fixed broadband data usage hit 1.5 billion GB, up 15.4% from Q2 2024, while average monthly usage per subscription climbed to 605 GB, an 11.6% increase.

Fixed Voice and Leased Lines
Fixed voice subscriptions fell slightly to 484,300, compared to 492,000 in Q2 2024, with 66% residential and 33% commercial. Voice traffic declined to 10.1 million minutes, down from 11.5 million, with domestic calls representing 83% of traffic. Meanwhile, leased line subscriptions grew to 24,800, marking a 7.8% increase.

Overall, the report underscores the rising demand for digital connectivity, particularly through mobile and fiber broadband, while traditional fixed voice services continue to decline.
