Google Launches ‘Digital Sahafat’ to Boost Digital Journalism Skills in Pakistan

Google, in collaboration with the local social enterprise Tech Valley, has announced the launch of ‘Digital Sahafat,’ a new initiative aimed at enhancing the digital journalism skills of Pakistani reporters. This program, part of the broader Google News Initiative (GNI), will equip 1,000 journalists across Pakistan with essential tools, training, and resources to produce accurate and engaging digital stories.

The GNI, recognized for its global efforts to combat misinformation and drive innovation in the news industry, will bring this program to Islamabad on September 4. The launch event will feature notable speakers, including Kate Beddoe, Managing Director of APAC News Partnerships at Google, alongside representatives from Tech Valley.

Google’s partnership with Tech Valley underscores its ongoing commitment to supporting journalism worldwide. Since its inception in 2018, the GNI has collaborated with thousands of news organizations in over 100 countries, offering tools, programs, and workshops to help publishers adapt to the evolving media landscape and enhance their readership and revenue.

Founded in 2015, Tech Valley focuses on connecting Pakistan’s public and private sectors, promoting technology and innovation at the intersection of academia, industry, and government.
