Sri Lanka Unveils National Cyber Security Operations Centre and Cyber Protection Strategy 2025–2029

Colombo — Sri Lanka has launched its National Cyber Security Operations Centre (NCSOC) and the National Cyber Protection Strategy (2025–2029), marking a major milestone in strengthening the country’s digital resilience and cybersecurity framework. The launch event was officiated by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, underscoring the government’s commitment to securing the nation’s digital infrastructure.

Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy and with technical support from the World Bank, the new strategy was implemented through the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (Sri Lanka CERT). It aims to build a secure, inclusive, and sustainable digital ecosystem, vital to the country’s expanding digital economy.

The Cyber Protection Strategy focuses on establishing a comprehensive legal and institutional framework for cybersecurity, nurturing a skilled cyber workforce, and promoting public awareness — particularly among students. It also enhances the capacity of Sri Lanka CERT, improves readiness across government institutions, and strengthens cooperation among public and private stakeholders to foster a resilient cyberspace.

The newly launched NCSOC will provide 24/7 monitoring for 37 key government institutions, including the Departments of Immigration and Emigration, Motor Traffic, and Inland Revenue. The centre will detect and respond to cyber threats in real-time, issue rapid alerts, and safeguard critical systems to ensure uninterrupted digital services.

By offering continuous threat monitoring, rapid incident response, and early warning systems, the NCSOC aims to bolster operational continuity, compliance, and public trust. It also extends support to the private sector, helping to strengthen digital infrastructure security and national cyber readiness.
