Orange and Visa Partner to Expand Digital Financial Access Across Africa and the Middle East

Orange Money Group, the mobile financial services arm of Orange, has entered into a strategic partnership with Visa to accelerate online payments and expand access to financial services across Africa and the Middle East. The collaboration aims to provide millions of users with secure, simple, and internationally accepted payment solutions.

At the centre of the partnership is the Orange Money Visa virtual card, which is directly accessible through the Max it app. Users can instantly create a virtual card, fund it at any time from their Orange Money account, and use it for secure online payments on both local and international websites. A physical Visa card is also planned for release at authorised Orange Money points of sale at a later stage.

The solution has already been successfully deployed in Botswana, Madagascar, and Jordan, where the partnership has been renewed. It was recently launched in Côte d’Ivoire, where both companies report strong early adoption. Building on this momentum, the virtual Visa card will be gradually rolled out in additional markets including Guinea, Burkina Faso, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Orange currently serves more than 173 million customers, with 45 million active Orange Money accounts across 17 African countries. The partnership with Visa marks a significant step in strengthening Orange Money’s position as a widely accepted digital payment method, enabling users to participate more fully in the global digital economy.

Thierry Millet, CEO of Orange Money Group, said the collaboration allows customers and entrepreneurs to create a virtual Visa card within seconds and make international online payments across the Visa network, positioning the partnership as the foundation for broader acceptance across major online platforms and local merchants alike.
