The United Arab Emirates has partnered with Starlink to deliver high-speed satellite internet connectivity to 100 remote schools, aiming to expand access to digital education in underserved regions. The initiative was announced during the World Government Summit and forms part of broader efforts to bridge connectivity gaps and improve access to technology-enabled learning.
The project is being implemented through the Digital School initiative under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation. The program focuses on providing digital education solutions to communities facing geographical and infrastructure challenges that limit access to reliable internet services. By leveraging Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellite network, the initiative enables schools in remote areas to access high-speed connectivity without requiring extensive ground infrastructure.
The collaboration primarily targets regions where broadband deployment remains limited, particularly in parts of Africa. Satellite-based connectivity is expected to support remote learning, improve access to digital educational resources, and enable more inclusive participation in technology-driven education systems. The initiative also aligns with broader global efforts to promote sustainable development through equitable access to education and digital infrastructure.
Starlink’s involvement highlights the growing role of satellite connectivity in addressing infrastructure gaps in education and public services. The expansion of satellite internet capabilities allows governments and organizations to deploy connectivity solutions faster and more efficiently in geographically challenging environments, supporting long-term digital inclusion goals.
