Jordan Partners with Tech Firm to Restore Forests Using Space Technologies and AI

Jordan has signed an agreement with the Sustainable World Software Technology Company to harness space technologies and AI for forest restoration as part of its National Plan for Sustainable Agriculture. The initiative aims to enhance forest health, combat desertification, and expand green cover. By leveraging AI-driven geospatial data and satellite monitoring, Jordan will boost sustainable forest management, generate carbon credits, and contribute to global climate change mitigation efforts. This agreement is a key step toward achieving Jordan’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and reversing years of deforestation.

Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hunaifat emphasized the importance of integrating modern technologies for forest conservation and expanding green areas. Sustainable World Software’s general manager, Abrar Otaibi, highlighted the company’s goal to use AI and space tech to support climate adaptation and rural development. This project will not only aid in local forest restoration but also help Jordan contribute to global sustainability goals.

Jordan’s forest canopy currently covers only 1.1% of its land, and this project is seen as a crucial effort to restore natural habitats that have suffered from deforestation and refugee-related land clearing over the past century.
