Orange and Vodafone Offer Free Calls to Lebanon Amid Crisis

In response to the escalating security situation in Lebanon, telecom giants Orange and Vodafone have announced free international call services to Lebanon for their users in Egypt. Starting Thursday, 26 September, Orange will provide its users free calls to Lebanon for a week. Vodafone’s offer includes three days of free services, comprising five minutes each of international calls, outgoing calls while roaming, and incoming calls while roaming, with daily renewals.

These measures coincide with a severe escalation in the region, marked by heavy Israeli airstrikes in eastern and southern Lebanon that have resulted in over 600 deaths and numerous injuries in the last three days.

Amid these developments, Egypt has advised its citizens against all non-essential travel to Lebanon and urged those currently in Lebanon to stay vigilant and steer clear of conflict zones. In a related move, EgyptAir has paused its Cairo to Beirut flights pending stabilization of the situation.

This situation has prompted advisories from several other nations for their citizens to evacuate Lebanon, with multiple international airlines halting flights to and from the country due to the ongoing turmoil.
