VEON Ltd. Celebrates Recognition for Digital Inclusion Efforts at M360 APAC

VEON Ltd. (Nasdaq: VEON, Euronext Amsterdam: VEON), a global digital operator, is proud to announce that its subsidiaries Mobilink Microfinance Bank and Banglalink have received three awards for their outstanding contributions to digital inclusion at the M360 APAC, GSMA’s premier annual event for the Asia Pacific region.

The “Digital Nations Award” honors mobile technology’s role in facilitating digital transformation across nations. This year’s competition drew entries from 11 countries, including Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Mobilink Microfinance Bank was awarded the “Digital Nations Video Creativity Award” for its impactful campaign titled “Invisible Heirs.” This powerful video addresses a pressing social issue in Pakistan and beyond, where women often do not receive their rightful inheritance after the death of a spouse or parent. In response, Mobilink has introduced a unique inheritance calculator to empower women, helping them easily calculate their inheritance rights. Additionally, Quratulain Chaudhary, Head of Women’s Financial Services and Sustainability at Mobilink Bank, received the “Women Digital Leadership Award.”

Banglalink, another company under the VEON Group umbrella, earned the “Excellence in Digital Inclusion Video Award” for its campaign “MyBL Super App: Revolutionising Healthcare in Rural Bangladesh.” Banglalink’s MyBL super app, which serves 7.8 million active users monthly as of September 2024, features a healthcare module that enhances access to healthcare for underserved populations in rural Bangladesh, where healthcare services are often difficult and costly to obtain.

“At VEON, we are committed to creating solutions that serve the underserved and promote greater inclusion through digital services. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our teams at Mobilink Bank and Banglalink for their impactful campaigns that tackle crucial issues in their markets. The mobile industry plays a vital role in bridging inequalities through digital technology, and we celebrate the achievements of our fellow operators and VEON Group companies,” stated Kaan Terzioglu, VEON Group CEO.

Banglalink was recognized with the Best Sustainability Excellence Initiative award in the Disaster Response category at the Bangladesh Sustainability Excellence Awards 2023 for its innovative integration of an Early Warning System within the MyBL Super App during Cyclone Mocha.
