ABU DHABI – The UAE Cabinet, led by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the creation of the Supreme Space Council, a permanent entity reporting directly to the Cabinet.
The Council will be chaired by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence. Its members include key government figures such as the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, the Minister of Economy, the Chairperson of the UAE Space Agency, and the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, among others.
The Council’s primary responsibilities include approving public policies for regulating the space sector, identifying national priorities, and defining essential technologies to ensure the UAE’s technological independence. It will also set investment and acquisition priorities for public and private entities involved in space activities.
In addition, the Council will work on strategies focused on space security, develop plans for infrastructure management, and establish partnerships at the local, regional, and international levels. It will also oversee legislation, policies, and programmes related to the space sector in collaboration with relevant authorities.
The UAE Space Agency will serve as the Council’s General Secretariat, providing technical and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the Council’s activities.
