Morocco is making significant strides in its digital transformation, focusing on enhancing human resources and updating educational programs to integrate digital skills. In this context, Huawei Morocco, a subsidiary of the Chinese technology giant Huawei, has partnered with Hassan II University of Casablanca (UH2C) to establish the “Code 212” digital skills center.
Already operational in other Moroccan universities, the Code 212 center aims to provide students with specialized training in critical fields such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
“This project reflects our commitment to education and innovation, and we are confident it will be vital in training future tech leaders. Through this partnership, Huawei Morocco aims to promote high-quality, forward-looking training that will develop the experts needed to drive Morocco’s digital transformation,” stated Jason Chen, Vice President of Huawei Morocco.
This initiative aligns with the Esri 2030 Pact, Morocco’s national strategy to accelerate the transformation of higher education, scientific research, and innovation by 2030. The objective is to equip students with essential, transferable, and digital skills tailored to the demands of the labor market, in accordance with royal directives to keep pace with global digital advancements.
The launch of Code 212 is particularly significant amid the current emphasis on digitalization as a key driver of economic growth, as training in this area remains a major challenge. A study by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) indicates that Africa needs to train 650 million individuals in digital skills by 2030 to fully harness technological advancements. In Morocco, the government has set an annual target of training 100,000 young people in digital professions, aiming to create 240,000 jobs in the sector by 2030.
