Bahrain’s leading telecom and technology group, Beyon, announced plans to launch its ambitious 380,000 square meter Digital City project in Hamala, in partnership with the Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah), the real estate arm of the Mumtalakat Holding Company. The agreement was signed on the opening day of the Gateway Gulf Investor Forum 2024, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bahrain.
Under this agreement, Edamah has been appointed as the development manager for Beyon’s flagship project, with construction set to commence in 2025. The signing ceremony was attended by Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, CEO of Mumtalakat and Chairman of Beyon and Edamah, alongside Andrew Kvalseth, CEO of Beyon, and Christopher Calvert, CEO of Edamah.
Beyon described its Digital City project as an integral part of its strategic intent to drive digital transformation in alignment with Bahrain’s national digitalization initiatives. The development aims to seamlessly integrate connectivity, technology, and real estate, establishing a new standard for mixed-use developments that cater to advanced digital lifestyles while adhering to international smart city standards.
Such projects are expected to serve as strategic enablers for local and foreign direct investment, stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and foster economic convergence across various sectors.
Andrew Kvalseth, CEO of Beyon, stated, “Beyon’s Digital City is more than just a project; it is a vision and benchmark for the future of urban living, built upon the core tenets of Bahrain’s Vision 2030, which prioritize livability, sustainability, inclusivity, and digitalization.” He expressed confidence that the project would offer promising investment opportunities, particularly for those interested in sustainable growth and returns.
The Digital City development focuses on three core pillars that reflect Beyon’s brand principles: People, Nature, and Technology. The project plans to prioritize livability, promote green spaces, and embrace innovation and digital integration.
The mixed-use environment will feature Beyon’s headquarters, R&D centers, healthcare facilities, fitness and recreation centers, and educational institutions. Additional amenities will include contemporary office spaces, retail and dining areas, as well as hospitality and serviced apartments.
At the center of the development will be a 1.2-kilometer green, vehicle-free boulevard that connects these spaces, promoting a harmonious lifestyle. The project will be supported by an advanced telecommunications infrastructure that powers IoT and AI systems, allowing for real-time, data-driven urban management to optimize operational efficiency. Residents and visitors will enjoy enhanced experiences through seamless digital services and future smart technology integrations.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, Beyon aims for LEED certification for its buildings, employing renewable energy sources and efficient resource management practices. The project will also incorporate smart transportation solutions, including electric and autonomous vehicles, and IoT-enabled traffic systems to optimize mobility and reduce environmental impact.
Beyon has chosen to partner with Edamah for the project’s development management due to their proven ability to deliver projects on time and meet the highest international standards. Christopher Calvert, CEO of Edamah, expressed enthusiasm for collaborating on this pioneering project, emphasizing their expertise in real estate development and construction. He noted that this partnership will ensure the Digital City meets and sets new standards for smart, sustainable urban development.
