The Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) has announced the winners of the Spectrum Auction for the Frequency Bands (600, 700, and 3800 MHz) designated for Mobile Telecommunication Networks. The winners include STC, Mobily, and Zain, who secured significant portions of the spectrum to enhance the country’s digital infrastructure.
STC won 40 MHz in the 600 MHz band and 100 MHz in the 3800 MHz band, while Mobily acquired 20 MHz in the 700 MHz band and 100 MHz in the 3800 MHz band. Zain secured 30 MHz in the 600 MHz band.
This auction is expected to contribute over 25 billion SAR to Saudi Arabia’s GDP by 2030, bolstering the country’s digital infrastructure, stimulating investment, and enhancing the competitiveness of Mobile Telecommunications Networks. Additionally, it will facilitate the deployment of innovative telecom services across the Kingdom. The total licensed frequencies for mobile telecommunication networks will increase by 27%, from 1110 MHz to 1400 MHz.
This achievement positions Saudi Arabia as a leader among the G20 nations in the total licensed spectrum for mobile networks in bands below 6 GHz. The CST also highlighted that Saudi Arabia is the first country in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East to license the 600 MHz frequency band for mobile telecommunications networks.
