BNET Acquires Infonas’ Fiber Network Assets to Strengthen Bahrain’s National Telecommunications Plan

Bahrain Network (BNET), the national provider of fiber-based broadband services in Bahrain, has reached a significant milestone with the acquisition of Infonas’ fixed fiber assets. This agreement marks a key step in the Kingdom’s National Telecommunications Plan (NTP5), which aims to unify the country’s telecommunications infrastructure and enhance broadband services across Bahrain.

The acquisition is notable as Infonas becomes the first licensed operator to transfer its assets to BNET since the company’s separation from Batelco in 2019. BNET, in collaboration with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), has been working on establishing optimal policies to facilitate the transfer of fixed fiber assets from licensed operators. This initiative also includes the introduction of new wholesale services to the Kingdom.

According to Bahrain’s Fifth National Telecommunications Plan (NTP5), the transfer of all fixed telecommunications infrastructure assets to BNET is crucial in positioning it as the Kingdom’s national broadband operator, ensuring equal access to all fiber-optic service providers.

“We are proud to merge Infonas’ fixed assets into BNET’s unified network, fulfilling the directives of the National Telecommunications Plan,” said Mr. Ahmed Jaber Alhogbani Aldoseri, CEO of BNET. “This is a critical step toward strengthening the Kingdom’s broadband infrastructure, and we look forward to welcoming more network operators to join our single network.”

Robert Rees, Chief Revenue Officer of Infonas, expressed pride in being the first network to join BNET’s national network. “This step will enhance the efficiency of fiber services and improve coverage, ensuring our customers enjoy uninterrupted and elevated telecommunications services. We are committed to supporting the Kingdom’s goal of unifying fixed telecommunications infrastructure.”
