Ncell CEO Michael Foley has urged Nepal to focus on improving 4G quality before rolling out 5G. Despite high 4G device penetration, users face issues with speed, coverage, and latency. Foley said operators struggle under heavy fees and declining revenues, making 5G investment challenging without policy reform.
A national BTRC inspection found major gaps between operators’ claimed 4G coverage and actual service quality, with widespread dead zones, call drops, and weak indoor connectivity across multiple districts. Regulators flagged compliance failures and urged stricter benchmarks, more towers, and improved oversight to ensure reliable mobile service for users.
The BTRC’s July 2025 test revealed that Bangladesh’s major operators have failed to meet 4G rollout commitments, with coverage gaps in over half of surveyed areas. Grameenphone, Banglalink, Robi, and Teletalk all fell short of service benchmarks, prompting regulatory warnings and renewed scrutiny over network quality.
