Bangladesh ranked 82nd in Surfshark’s Digital Quality of Life Index 2025, dropping six places from last year. While internet quality improved, affordability, e-government, e-infrastructure, and e-security remain challenges. The country trails India but stays ahead of Pakistan in South Asia’s digital competitiveness.
Bangladesh ranks sixth in South Asia for internet usage, with only 44 users per 100 people, lagging behind India and Bhutan, according to the ADB. However, the country ranks second in 4G coverage (98.9%) and fourth in mobile subscriptions, underscoring both progress and challenges in its digital transformation.
Bangladeshi firms have partnered with Starlink to establish earth stations across the country, aiming to provide reliable internet, especially in remote areas. The collaboration involves space allocation, construction support, and infrastructure maintenance, with a goal to implement the model within the next 90 days to overcome connectivity challenges.
Bangladesh has improved its global mobile internet speed ranking, moving up to 88th place in November 2024. The country’s mobile internet download speed increased to 28.26 Mbps, with Banglalink emerging as the fastest provider. Bangladesh also saw progress in fixed broadband performance, rising to 99th globally.
