Bangladesh’s telecom regulator has delayed the launch of the National Equipment Identity Register to January 1, 2026, extending deadlines for handset registration and giving traders more time to comply. The system aims to block illegal mobile phones, with final implementation linked to pending tax decisions by the revenue authority.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned mobile users against using tampered or cloned devices, emphasizing that IMEI tampering is a criminal offense. Violators could face hefty fines or imprisonment. PTA urges users to verify device status via DIRBS or PTA’s official app to avoid legal consequences.
Jordan’s imports of mobile devices in 2024 totaled approximately JD176 million, with 1.855 million devices entering the market. Purchases using debit cards reached JD60.2 million, and tablet imports amounted to JD45 million. This marks significant growth in mobile device sales, reflecting increasing demand and the shift towards digital transactions.
In early 2025, Jordan’s mobile device imports dropped to 259,000 units but rose in value to JD26 million, reflecting a shift towards higher-value and premium-brand devices. Global inflation and shipping costs contributed to this trend. 2024 saw a positive shift with a 13.7% increase in import values.
The PTA has urged consumers to register their mobile devices by paying taxes and duties to the FBR. This initiative, in collaboration with the FBR, aims to regulate mobile devices, combat smuggling, and ensure secure, compliant mobile services in Pakistan. Consumers are encouraged to buy PTA-approved devices.
