In a move that marks a significant step forward in Bahrain’s telecommunications landscape, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom, has officially sanctioned Edict (102) of 2023, thereby putting into motion the Sixth National Telecommunications Plan. This development comes on the heels of a concerted proposal by the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and subsequent consultations with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), alongside the Cabinet’s endorsement.
The edict encompasses a dual-article framework, with Article I mandating the adoption of the Sixth National Telecommunications Plan and its implementation over the next three years. Article II ensures that both the edict and the plan are to be duly published in the Official Gazette, the Kingdom’s record of legal documentation.
This directive entrusts the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications with the oversight of the implementation of the plan, which will go into effect the day following its issuance. The enactment of this plan is expected to guide the trajectory of Bahrain’s telecommunications sector, encompassing advancements in infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and consumer services, aiming to boost connectivity and technological prowess across the Kingdom.
