The Sultanate of Oman, through its Ministry of Education, is actively participating in the ongoing UNESCO Digital Learning Week, which runs from September 2 to 5, 2024, at the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters in Paris. This prestigious event focuses on advancing global digital learning initiatives and transforming education through technology.
This year’s conference, held under the theme “Directing Technology in Education,” is a significant gathering aimed at fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among key players in the education sector. These participants include government officials, digital education experts, researchers, policymakers, NGOs, United Nations representatives, and members of the private sector.
Oman’s delegation is led by Majid Said Al Bahri, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs. His participation underscores Oman’s commitment to enhancing its education system through the integration of digital technologies.
The primary goal of UNESCO Digital Learning Week is to promote the digital transformation of education systems around the world. This includes the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, particularly in learning assessments. The conference also focuses on building educational frameworks that link digital innovation with sustainability efforts, empowering students with AI knowledge, guiding teachers in the use of AI tools, and fostering digital citizenship through the development of AI competencies among students.
Oman contributed to the discussions with a scientific paper presented by the Ministry of Education. The paper highlighted Oman’s experience in incorporating artificial intelligence into its school curriculum, showcasing the nation’s efforts to embrace modern technologies for the benefit of its educational system.
Additionally, Oman’s delegation held meetings with UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Education and other educational experts. These discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between Oman and UNESCO to further develop and improve educational practices in the Sultanate.
The UNESCO Digital Learning Week provides a valuable platform for nations like Oman to share insights and strategies for leveraging digital technologies in education, reinforcing the global push toward more tech-enabled learning environments.
