In a decisive push to position Pakistan at the forefront of the digital economy, the committee for Digital Pakistan convened on Wednesday under directives from Prime Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif. The meeting, co-chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and IT State Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, aimed to accelerate the nation’s digital transformation.
The assembly focused on formulating strategies to enhance Pakistan’s digital capabilities in e-commerce and artificial intelligence. Minister Ahsan Iqbal stressed the importance of innovation and technological progress in maintaining competitive global standing. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to youth development through initiatives such as distributing over a million free laptops, bolstering Pakistan’s status as the third-largest freelancing nation.
Further discussions highlighted the establishment of four major technology and innovation centers designed to spur research, development, and entrepreneurial endeavors. The meeting also spotlighted efforts to bridge the digital divide, including expanding internet access to remote areas and the notable launch of a satellite in collaboration with China.
The session concluded with the committee affirming its commitment to forge a knowledge-based economy and transform Pakistan into a digital powerhouse. The developed roadmap will guide future initiatives to promote digital literacy, inspire innovation, and secure a thriving digital future for Pakistan.
