Mauritania is partnering with Oman to accelerate the digital transformation initiatives outlined in a recently signed memorandum of understanding. The focus of this collaboration, as discussed by Mauritania’s Minister of Digital Transformation and Administrative Modernization, Ahmed Salem Bede Etvagha, and Oman’s Chargé d’Affaires in Mauritania, Jassim bin Eid bin Abdullah Al Saadi, revolves around cybersecurity enhancements and the digital transformation of services.
This partnership is reported by the Mauritanian Press Agency as a strategic move aligning with Mauritania’s 2024-2027 National Strategy for Administrative Modernization. The collaboration seeks to leverage Oman’s significant progress in digital governance, which has seen the Sultanate rise to 41st in the UN’s 2024 e-Government Development Index, and its 22nd global ranking in communication infrastructure.
Minister Etvagha highlighted the importance of adapting technological projects to reflect the cultural values of both nations and expressed keenness to adopt Oman’s best practices in digital transformation. This bilateral effort aims to close the technological gap in Mauritania by localizing digital expertise, customizing projects to meet local needs, and fostering investment opportunities that will support the nation’s ongoing digital advancements.
