ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT MM1, has successfully become operational with the support of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
The operationalization of PAKSAT MM1 marks a significant milestone in the country’s advancement in space and digital development. The success of this satellite is set to transform Pakistan’s communication infrastructure, benefiting various IT sectors.
PAKSAT MM1 will provide services including television broadcasting, community internet, and tele-education, promoting local industries. Additionally, the satellite will enhance internet connectivity in remote areas, aligning with the government’s vision for a Digital Pakistan.
Pakistan has also improved its ranking in the United Nations E-Governance Development Index, climbing 14 points to stand at 136, up from 150 in 2022.
Launched on May 30 by Pakistan’s National Space Agency (SUPARCO), PAKSAT MM1 reached its designated earth orbit on June 5. According to a spokesperson from SUPARCO, the satellite is located at an altitude of 38,786 km above the earth, specifically at 38.2 degrees East.
Weighing five tonnes, PAKSAT MM1 is equipped with the latest communication technology, enabling the provision of high-speed internet services across the country. Following its successful entry into orbit, the satellite’s solar panels have begun functioning, and various tests will be conducted to assess its condition in space, as confirmed by the SUPARCO spokesperson.
