American University in Dubai Launches Master’s Program in Artificial Intelligence

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The American University in Dubai (AUD) has unveiled its new Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (M.S.A.I.) program, positioning the university at the forefront of AI innovation and education in the region. This program aims to develop the expertise of professionals in the UAE and beyond, while fostering economic growth across various industries, including healthcare, finance, and energy. Classes will begin on January 13, 2025, and the program is now accepting applications.

The announcement was made during a launch event that brought together leading academics and industry experts to discuss how AI education and research are transforming business practices and creating new growth opportunities. Dr. Kyle Long, President of AUD, spoke at the event, emphasizing the university’s role in contributing to the UAE’s AI goals. “The history of AUD is one of continuous innovation for societal benefit,” said Dr. Long. “We are uniquely positioned to help the UAE lead in the new AI era. Our M.S.A.I. program invites students, scholars, and industry leaders to join us in exploring the vast possibilities AI presents.”

Dr. Nejib Ben Hadj Alouane, M.S.A.I. Program Director and Professor of Computer Engineering, provided an overview of the program’s curriculum, which combines core subjects with a broad range of electives. Students will explore decision theory, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and topics like computer vision, natural language processing, robotics, and the internet of things. The program also includes a research project to foster hands-on learning.

The event also featured a keynote from Mr. Ali Alkhajeh, Chief AI Officer at Digital Dubai Government Establishment and an AUD alumnus. He highlighted AI’s transformative potential across industries, stating, “The true power of AI lies not just in the technology, but in the people who innovate and apply it. This program empowers students to use AI for meaningful progress.”

Dr. Wael Bazzi, Dean of the School of Engineering, also spoke about the program’s design and the university’s commitment to excellence in AI education. He said, “The M.S.A.I. program equips students with the knowledge and skills to become leaders in AI, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities of a technology-driven future.”

The launch event concluded with a showcase of faculty-led AI research and a Q&A session, demonstrating the university’s dedication to advancing AI education and research.
