Algerian MP Highlights Country’s Efforts in Digitization and AI Development at IGF 2024

Hicham Sifer, Chairman of the Committee on Legal and Administrative Affairs and Freedoms at the Algerian People’s National Assembly, emphasized Algeria’s ongoing efforts in digitization and artificial intelligence during a workshop at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2024) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In his address, Sifer highlighted Algeria’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure and leveraging artificial intelligence to drive technological advancements. He explained that the country has embarked on a digitization and innovation journey, drawing from the experiences of other nations to bolster its local capabilities. He specifically mentioned the efforts to improve digital connectivity across Algeria, noting the vital infrastructures that have been established to support this transformation.

Sifer also pointed out that the Algerian Parliament is actively working to create a legislative and regulatory framework conducive to digitization, including the introduction of initiatives such as the bill on auto-entrepreneurship. He emphasized that Algerian laws are being adapted to the needs of artificial intelligence, referencing the country’s cybercrime law as an example.

He concluded that Algeria’s legislative framework for digital technology is aimed at fostering the digital economy and creating the foundations for a robust technological and AI-driven economic future.
