Telecommunication Services Expanded to Eight Remote Districts in Helmand Province

Telecommunication services have been launched in eight remote districts of southern Helmand province, following a report by Pajhwok Afghan News. Mullah Amanullah Shabir, the Telecommunication and Information Technology Director, confirmed that phone services are now available in the districts of Baghni, Baghran, Washer, Nowzad, Bahramcha, Khanashin, Dishu, and Garmsir, after Pajhwok’s report highlighted the telecommunication challenges faced by local residents.

Shabir explained that efforts to improve communication infrastructure are ongoing throughout the province, as part of a Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology (MoCIT) initiative aimed at providing high-quality telecom services. The project will see the installation of 70 new telecom sites by the end of the year, with several already completed and others under construction.

Of the 70 new sites, 30 belong to Salaam Network, 30 to Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC), and 8 to Etisalat Telecommunication Firm. These sites are set to begin operations soon. Additionally, Salaam Network has upgraded its internet services to 4G in 20 sites, with plans to expand these services to all districts in the coming year.

In addition to the state-owned Salam, four private telecommunication companies are currently operational in the province.
