The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has unveiled the National Digital Authentication and Trust Services Strategy for 2024-2026, aimed at driving Qatar’s digital transformation. This strategy is aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030, the Digital Agenda 2030, and the Third National Development Strategy.
According to the MCIT’s press release, the strategy aims to establish a legal, regulatory, and technical framework for an integrated digital system that enhances trust in electronic services. The goal is to create a secure digital environment that facilitates seamless collaboration among individuals, government entities, and the private sector.
A key component of this strategy is the development of a unified digital identity, allowing users to access a variety of electronic services without the need for multiple identities across platforms. This system enhances security and simplifies access, helping to protect personal data while promoting a user-friendly digital experience.
The MCIT emphasized that the strategy’s core focus on digital identity will significantly improve data security and the confidentiality of personal information, fostering trust between service providers and users. This initiative will also contribute to integrating services across various sectors and stimulating innovation to meet diverse community needs.
Additionally, the strategy is designed to support Qatar’s broader digital transformation by enhancing the security and efficiency of electronic services. It aims to increase the adoption of such services, reduce reliance on paper-based documentation, and lower costs for both government and businesses. Moreover, it promotes job creation within Qatar’s digital economy and encourages innovation, while aiming to streamline government and private sector collaboration in a secure and integrated manner.
Mashael Ali al-Hammadi, Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Government Affairs at MCIT, highlighted the strategy’s importance in driving Qatar’s digital transformation. She stated, “Through this strategy, MCIT aims to enhance trust in electronic services by developing an advanced technical and legislative infrastructure. Digital innovation is key to achieving Qatar National Vision 2030, and this strategy reflects our commitment to providing reliable and secure services that will improve lives and boost the national economy.”
The strategy follows a phased approach, beginning with strengthening the existing digital authentication framework. The subsequent phases will focus on expanding interconnectivity between government and private entities, developing a regulatory framework for trust services, and ensuring the sustainability of the digital system under advanced governance structures.
