Visa has launched Apple Pay in Egypt, offering a secure and convenient payment solution to meet the growing demand for digital-first services in the region. Apple Pay allows Visa cardholders to make contactless payments in-store by simply holding their iPhone or Apple Watch near a payment terminal. The payment process is secured using authentication methods like Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode, along with a dynamic security code for every transaction.
In addition to in-store payments, Apple Pay also supports online and in-app transactions on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, making it easier to purchase food, transportation, parking, and shop online without repeatedly entering contact, shipping, or billing information.
Apple Pay incorporates strong privacy and security features to protect user data. Actual card numbers are not stored on the device or on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, a certified chip designed for safeguarding payment information.
Visa cardholders can easily set up Apple Pay by adding their Visa credit or debit cards to the Wallet app on their iPhone. Once added, users can start using Apple Pay immediately across their Apple devices, including the Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac. They will also continue to enjoy all the rewards and benefits tied to their Visa cards.
The introduction of Apple Pay in Egypt highlights Visa’s commitment to driving payment innovation worldwide. This launch aligns with the increasing popularity of contactless payments in the country and meets consumer preferences for secure and seamless payment solutions. The digital payment landscape in Egypt is evolving, driven by both government and private sector initiatives to promote cashless transactions, with the Central Bank of Egypt supporting efforts to enhance financial inclusion and encourage digital payment usage.
