Mohamed bin Zayed University of AI Appoints New Board, Strengthening Ties with Global AI Industry

The appointment of a new Board of Trustees for Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) marks a new chapter in its development, strengthening its global position and aligning closely with Abu Dhabi’s AI investment strategy. The reconstitution of the board includes prominent new members such as AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su, and aligns the university with Abu Dhabi’s executive and economic leadership.

The new nine-member board sees the departure of long-standing trustees, including Sir Michael Brady and Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, and welcomes figures like His Excellency Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Group CEO of Mubadala, and other prominent leaders in the fields of finance, technology, and government. The board’s formation underscores the significance of MBZUAI’s role in the UAE’s ambitious AI strategies and its growing global influence.

Abu Dhabi’s commitment to AI is reflected in its investments, including the establishment of MGX, a global AI investment fund. MBZUAI, which is positioned as the first graduate-level AI research university, has produced top AI talent and become a key player in global AI research and innovation. The university also continues to contribute to Abu Dhabi’s growing influence in global AI development through partnerships and agreements, such as the collaboration with India on digital infrastructure.
