Morocco Advocates for Collaborative Cybersecurity Approach at African Cybersecurity Forum

At the African Cybersecurity Forum held in Rabat from February 3 to 5, Brigadier General El Mostafa Rabii, Director of the Center for Monitoring, Detection, and Response to Cyberattacks under Morocco’s General Directorate of Information Systems Security (DGSSI), emphasized the importance of cybersecurity in Africa’s digital transformation. Rabii called for a collaborative and proactive approach to cybersecurity, stressing the need for robust, sovereign cybersecurity systems to protect critical infrastructure across the continent.

Rabii highlighted that Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, has prioritized cybersecurity by establishing governance structures and implementing strategies aimed at enhancing the resilience of critical infrastructure. He pointed out the challenges posed by escalating geopolitical tensions and advanced cyber threats, urging the adoption of innovative technologies to safeguard Africa’s growing digital ecosystem.

He also advocated for increased international cooperation and intelligence-sharing to tackle transnational cyber threats. Rabii noted that initiatives like Smart Africa and the African Network of Cybersecurity Authorities (ANCA) play a vital role in harmonizing digital policies across Africa and fostering a unified approach to combat cyber risks.

The forum, organized by DGSSI in alignment with High Royal Instructions, brought together cybersecurity experts, government officials, business leaders, and researchers from both Morocco and across the globe to discuss ways to strengthen Africa’s cybersecurity capabilities.
