Bahrain Launches eKey 2.0 for Seamless Biometric Authentication in Digital Services

Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), in collaboration with Beyon Connect, has launched the upgraded eKey 2.0 system, enabling citizens and residents to access services securely through biometric authentication. The system eliminates the need for passwords, enhancing the user experience while supporting Bahrain’s digital transformation goals under Economic Vision 2030.

The launch event, held at the Gulf Hotel Conference Hall, was inaugurated by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, in the presence of key officials including iGA CEO Mohammed Ali Al Qaed and Beyon Connect’s CEO Christopher Hild. Al Qaed emphasized that eKey 2.0 is a pivotal step in modernizing Bahrain’s government services, aligning with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The upgraded eKey system introduces features such as user-controlled data sharing, integration with electronic signatures, and enhanced Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures. It provides secure authorization services for both government and private sector transactions, ensuring high levels of security, data sovereignty, and privacy. The system also supports cost reduction for organizations by eliminating the need for additional technologies and infrastructure investments.

The launch of eKey 2.0 marks a significant milestone in Bahrain’s ICT sector, positioning the kingdom as a regional and global leader in secure digital identity solutions. It will play a key role in sectors such as banking, finance, telecommunications, and healthcare, ensuring compliance with international standards and Bahrain’s data protection regulations.

This strategic partnership between the public and private sectors demonstrates Bahrain’s commitment to delivering innovative digital services that align with its Vision 2030 objectives for a secure, digital-first nation.
