France, in collaboration with several international partners, including Morocco, has launched an ambitious initiative in artificial intelligence (AI) called ‘Current AI’. The project aims to raise $2.5 billion over the next five years to develop AI systems that assess social and environmental impacts. This initiative is designed to boost AI development in France and Europe while fostering global innovation.
Morocco, a founding member alongside Nigeria, Kenya, Germany, Finland, Chile, Slovenia, and Switzerland, has been a key player in the project. It also strengthens bilateral ties between Morocco and France in AI and technology. Major tech companies, including Google, Salesforce, and the AI Collaborative group, have also joined the project, contributing to a $400 million budget.
Morocco is increasingly adopting AI as a tool to accelerate development across various sectors, such as education and healthcare. The country’s emphasis on AI’s role in societal development aligns with its broader digital strategy. Morocco has also proposed the creation of an Arab initiative focused on AI in education, aiming to address challenges like school dropouts and academic performance.
Amina Bouayach, president of the Moroccan National Human Rights Council (CNDH), called for the development of a national AI strategy during a conference in Settat, highlighting AI’s potential to drive innovation without conflicting with human rights. Morocco continues to push for AI adoption in education, focusing on teacher training and academic reforms to enhance the quality of education.
