Kuwait’s Interior Ministry announced on Thursday that it successfully thwarted large-scale cyberattacks targeting telecom towers and banks in the Gulf nation. The attacks were orchestrated by an international cybercrime group consisting of Chinese nationals. The ministry stated that the suspects were arrested but did not disclose the number of individuals involved.
The cybercriminals used advanced electronic devices and data analysis techniques to send fraudulent messages impersonating banks and telecom companies in an attempt to conduct phishing scams. The Interior Ministry reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening its cybersecurity measures to protect the country from such threats.
The suspects were handed over to the relevant authorities for legal action. Chinese authorities have yet to comment on the ministry’s statement regarding the cybercrime ring.
