Africa for Information Technology and Aviation (AITA), a leader in aviation IT solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with SKYFive Arabia, a provider of broadband connectivity for aircraft, to deliver high-speed in-flight connectivity (IFC) services to airlines in Egypt. This collaboration will utilize the latest air-to-ground (A2G) communication technology to address Egypt’s limited in-flight connectivity, despite being a major travel destination.
Discussions with key Egyptian airlines regarding service implementation are already underway, with agreements expected in the near future. The first commercial aircraft is set to be operational by the end of 2025, serving international routes between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Through its partnership with SKYFive Arabia, AITA aims to provide Egyptian airlines with seamless high-speed broadband connectivity, offering instant and responsive service for both passengers and crew. The A2G technology, developed by SKYFive’s German parent company, has already been successfully deployed in Europe. Egyptian airlines will also gain uninterrupted connectivity across Europe through a roaming agreement with Viasat, which operates the European Aviation Network (EAN).
The A2G network is expected to benefit over 25 million passengers annually in Egypt. AITA’s ground-based network, using proven cellular technology, promises a smooth browsing experience with high speeds and minimal latency. The lightweight technology not only improves efficiency but also reduces weight and drag, leading to lower fuel consumption and better environmental sustainability.
AITA plans to expand this in-flight connectivity service to all airlines in Egypt, with a broader goal to introduce in-flight internet technology across Africa.
