APM Terminals has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications to enhance operations at the Khalifa Bin Salman Port. The agreement aims to more than double the port’s throughput by 2030, improve trade links between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, and contribute to Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, emphasized the strategic importance of Bahrain’s location, particularly its direct links to Saudi Arabia and other Arabian Gulf states, which positions the country as a key regional trade hub. The Ministry pledged full support to APM Terminals in achieving these ambitious goals.
APM Terminals Bahrain, which already supports over 500 direct jobs, will continue to focus on employee development and collaboration with local academic institutions to provide specialized programs for the next generation.
Jon Goldner, CEO of APM Terminals for Asia and the Middle East, highlighted the significance of this agreement, stating that APM Terminals, along with parent company A.P. Moller-Maersk, will leverage their combined expertise to drive economic growth and sustainability in the region. One example of this collaboration includes the creation of a responsible ship recycling ecosystem, with recycled steel re-exported via the port to add further economic value.
